Whilst offering a home visiting service, I am still working full time in practice so I have clear understanding on how expensive vet bills can be - particularly when it comes to emergencies and being faced with those unexpected bills.
It is very common to hear "if you can't afford your vet bills, you shouldn't have animals. They are a luxury, not a necessity", it is very important to remind ourselves that financial circumstances can change within a blink of an eye.
For example: a family who got a dog 5 years ago had fantastic financial stability at that time, they never imagined living a life where they had to count the pennies. Unfortunately, that's recently changed due to personal reasons, due to the rise in cost of living, due to the arrival of an unplanned baby, etc. The family provides a caring, loving home for their dog but they're struggling to feed their children recently - this isn't poor animal ownership, this is life.
Animals are also a huge emotional support for many people including young children right through to our elders. For many people, animals are the reason some people are more encouraged to get out of bed in the morning and then go for a walk. Animals can change many things when it comes to mental, emotional and physical wellbeing.
My vision with setting up this fundraiser is to be able to help pet owners pay towards their pets emergency treatment*. For example, if your pet has been involved in a road traffic accident, needs emergency surgery/sedation, broken a limb and requires x-rays and further treatment, etc. Vet bills can be extremely high but if we can build up a crowdfunder, we will be able to help various people out across Fenland, Cambridgeshire. We aim to help those within the areas we work with Pet Nurse Natasha.
*Please be aware that funds may not always cover the full cost of treatment but will at least help out.
Example of a list of emergency care, but not limited to:
• Broken limbs
• Road traffic accidents and similar trauma
• Emergency surgery (ingestion of foreign body, pyometra, intestinal blockages, etc)
• Respiratory distress
• Wounds
Please note that funds will not be available for routine procedures such as neutering, preventative care including parasite treatment and vaccinations, caesareans, lump removals, etc. this is ONLY for emergencies and any funds towards the cost will be paid directly to the veterinary practice upon seeing clinical history and invoices. We will also require receiving a receipt from the veterinary practice as proof that we have made payment with the funds made by the public.
Due to this fundraiser being very new, there may be times where funds are insufficient.
With owners permission, stories will be shared via my website and Facebook page to share who has been helped with the funds.
